Gonda: A divisional-level meeting of the Monitoring Committee concerning Urban Local Bodies, colleges and the Basic Education Department was held under the chairmanship of Devipatan Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal, with a detailed review of ongoing works, schemes, pending matters and progress across Gonda, Bahraich, Shravasti and Balrampur.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner sought department-wise and point-wise updates from officials and directed them to accelerate implementation in accordance with government priorities. She stressed that pending matters should be resolved on priority and that public-oriented schemes must be implemented effectively and within stipulated timelines.
Reviewing the functioning of Urban Local Bodies, Nagpal directed officials to ensure better basic civic amenities for residents in urban areas. She called for regular monitoring of sanitation, drinking water supply, street lighting, drainage, roads and other essential services. Complaints received from citizens and pending cases should be resolved within the prescribed timeframe, she said.
The Commissioner also emphasised that there should be no compromise on the quality of development works and schemes being implemented by Urban Local Bodies. Officials were directed to conduct regular reviews as well as field inspections to ensure that the benefits of government programmes actually reach residents.
While reviewing matters related to colleges, Nagpal stressed the need to further strengthen the academic environment. She directed officials to ensure adequate basic facilities in educational institutions and regularly monitor arrangements. Problems faced by students should be identified and resolved on priority, she said.
During the review of the Basic Education Department, the Commissioner sought details regarding teaching arrangements, student attendance, basic infrastructure, educational resources and the progress of various government schemes. She directed officials to ensure an environment conducive to quality education in schools and to make certain that eligible students receive the benefits of government schemes and facilities on time.
She further instructed officials to regularly monitor teacher attendance and classroom teaching. Schools should maintain proper sanitation, drinking water, electricity, furniture and other essential facilities, she said, warning that negligence concerning children’s education and basic amenities would be viewed seriously.
Nagpal also directed officials not to restrict action on pending matters before the committees to mere correspondence. Every case, she said, must be followed through to an effective resolution. Where inter-departmental coordination is required, officials should establish direct coordination with the concerned departments and ensure disposal of cases within the prescribed timeframe.
The Commissioner said that there would be no tolerance for laxity or negligence in matters linked to government priorities and public interest. She directed all departments to hold regular review meetings and assess the actual status of implementation so that shortcomings could be identified and corrected promptly.
A key deadline issued during the meeting was that compliance reports on the directions given and action taken in various cases must be submitted by September 15 without fail. Officials were instructed to provide a clear, factual account of action taken against every point raised during the review, enabling the administration to assess the actual status of each matter.
Nagpal also called for transparency, quality and timeliness in all public-oriented works. Wherever shortcomings are detected in implementation, corrective action should be taken immediately, while continuous monitoring should be maintained to improve the overall performance of schemes and projects.
Concluding the meeting, the Commissioner directed all concerned officials to work with coordination and a team-oriented approach to improve services and implementation in Urban Local Bodies, colleges and the Basic Education sector across Devipatan Division.
She reiterated that the ultimate objective should be to ensure effective implementation of government programmes and extend their benefits to the maximum number of eligible beneficiaries.
