AIIMS Raebareli Observes National Nutrition Week 2026 with Focus on Balanced Diet and Healthy Lifestyle

Raebareli: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raebareli is observing National Nutrition Week 2026 from September 1 to 7, with a series of awareness and educational activities aimed at promoting balanced diets, proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles among patients, their attendants and the wider community.

The week-long programme began on September 1 under the guidance of AIIMS Raebareli Executive Director Dr Amita Jain. The activities are being conducted under the leadership of Dr Bholanath, Head of the Department of Community Medicine and Public Health, with Dr Mukesh Shukla serving as the programme coordinator.

The initiative brings together doctors, healthcare workers and teams from different departments to communicate the importance of nutrition through simple, practical and engaging activities.

The opening programme on September 1 included a nutrition awareness and health education session for hospitalised patients and their attendants. Participants were provided with practical information on balanced diets, adequate nutrition, healthy eating habits and the role of lifestyle choices in maintaining overall health.

Addressing the gathering, Dean Academics Dr Neeraj Kumari highlighted the importance of nutritious food and healthy lifestyle practices in preventing disease and maintaining long-term well-being. She encouraged people to incorporate locally available and nutritious food items into their everyday diets.

She also emphasised that maintaining good nutrition does not necessarily require expensive food products. A balanced diet based on affordable, locally available and seasonal foods, consumed in appropriate quantities, can make an important contribution to good health.

Community-Focused Awareness Activities

AIIMS Raebareli has planned several activities for the remaining days of National Nutrition Week. These include nutrition awareness campaigns, health education sessions, interactive discussions, quizzes, games and other engaging activities for patients, their families and members of the community.

The objective is to make nutrition-related information easier to understand and more relevant to everyday life. Through interactive formats, the organisers aim to encourage people to adopt healthier eating habits and develop a better understanding of the relationship between nutrition and disease prevention.

Special emphasis is also being placed on communicating messages about the prevention of malnutrition and the importance of a balanced diet.

As part of the outreach programme, street plays and other public-awareness activities will be organised to take nutrition messages directly to the community. These initiatives will address subjects including balanced diets, prevention of malnutrition, healthy eating practices and the importance of adequate nutrition across different stages of life.

Promoting Affordable and Local Nutrition

A key message of the campaign is that healthy eating need not be expensive. AIIMS Raebareli is encouraging members of the public to make greater use of locally available and seasonal foods while maintaining an appropriate balance of nutrients and portion sizes.

The programme seeks to shift the focus from costly food products to informed food choices and sustainable dietary habits. By combining medical guidance with community-based awareness activities, AIIMS Raebareli aims to make nutrition education accessible to a wider section of society.

Dr Manas, Dr Pragya, Dr Aparna and Dr Shaivya, along with other doctors and healthcare workers, participated in the opening activities and contributed to the awareness initiatives.

The National Nutrition Week programme will continue through September 7, with AIIMS Raebareli using educational and interactive activities to reinforce the message that proper nutrition, healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle are fundamental to disease prevention and overall well-being.
