A.K. Sharma Inspects Drain Construction and Desilting Works in Lucknow, Stresses Timely Completion Before Monsoon

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma conducted an on-site inspection of ongoing drain construction and desilting works in Vishwas Khand and Vivek Khand in Lucknow, directing officials to ensure efficient water drainage during the monsoon and complete all projects within the stipulated timeline while maintaining high quality standards.

During the visit, the minister reviewed the progress of a 600-metre drain under construction in Vishwas Khand. Officials informed him that 500 metres of the drain had already been completed, while the remaining work was progressing rapidly. Sharma said the project would provide long-term relief from waterlogging in Vishwas Khand and adjoining areas by enabling faster drainage of rainwater once completed.

The minister also inspected ongoing drain cleaning operations and expressed satisfaction with the progress. He instructed officials to ensure regular maintenance and desilting of drains so that water flows unhindered during the rainy season, preventing inconvenience to residents.

Emphasising preparedness for the monsoon, Sharma directed officials to closely monitor all vulnerable locations, immediately remove any obstructions affecting drainage, and ensure prompt resolution of public complaints related to waterlogging.

He reiterated that no compromise would be accepted on the quality or timely execution of civic infrastructure projects, adding that the convenience and safety of citizens remain the Urban Development Department’s highest priority.

During the inspection, Sharma also visited the under-construction Shakti Upvan and instructed the Municipal Commissioner to undertake large-scale tree plantation at the site and install display boards highlighting various government welfare schemes to promote public awareness.

Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, the Additional Municipal Commissioner, and other senior officials accompanied the minister during the inspection.
