Rohilkhand University Launches ‘One Tree in Mother’s Name’ Campaign on World Environment Day

Tree Plantation Drive Marks World Environment Day and Celebrates 12 Years of the Central Government

Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, organized a tree plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day as part of a statewide campaign commemorating the completion of 12 years of the Central Government.

The programme was conducted in accordance with directives issued by the Government of Uttar Pradesh under a comprehensive public awareness and welfare campaign scheduled from June 5 to June 21, 2026. The initiative aims to highlight the achievements of various Central and State Government policies, schemes, and programmes while showcasing the positive changes brought to the lives of citizens.

As part of the campaign’s inaugural event, the university joined the nationwide “One Tree in Mother’s Name” initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for environmental conservation. Fruit-bearing saplings were planted in the university’s Yoga Vatika to promote greenery and ecological sustainability on the campus.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh emphasized the growing importance of environmental protection in the modern world.

“Today, environmental conservation is no longer an option but a necessity for human survival. World Environment Day reminds us of our responsibility towards nature and encourages us to take meaningful action. Even small steps taken by individuals can make a significant contribution to environmental protection,” he said.

Prof. Singh described the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign as an emotionally powerful and inspiring initiative. He noted that just as mothers nurture, protect, and sustain life, trees provide oxygen, shade, nourishment, and a clean environment essential for human well-being.

“Universities are not only centres of learning but also centres of social responsibility. We must keep our campuses green, clean, and environmentally friendly. I urge everyone to plant a tree in honour of their mother, care for it regularly, and inspire others to do the same. Every sapling planted represents not only environmental commitment but also our culture, values, and sensitivity toward nature,” he added.

The university administration highlighted that the Rohilkhand University campus has consistently worked towards promoting natural beauty, environmental conservation, and a healthy lifestyle through various green initiatives.

Among those present during the plantation programme were Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Controller of Examinations Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Prof. S.K. Pandey, Prof. Sanjay Mishra, Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey, Dr. Ajay Yadav, Dr. Atul Katiyar, Dr. Naveen Balian, Sudhanshu, and several faculty members and staff. Participants actively took part in planting saplings and pledged to contribute to environmental preservation.

The event reinforced the university’s commitment to sustainability while aligning with the broader national objective of increasing green cover and promoting environmental awareness across the country.
