Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Taj Mahal and Jhansi Fort Included in Census Documentation
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh successfully launched the first phase of Census 2027 — House Listing and Housing Census — across the state on Friday, marking a major step toward the nationwide population enumeration exercise.
Prior to the launch, the state conducted a Self Enumeration drive from May 7 to May 21, 2026. By the final day, a total of 47,96,158 families had completed self-enumeration, reflecting strong public participation and growing awareness about the census process.
Under the House Listing and Housing Census phase, door-to-door surveys began across all 3,89,312 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) in the state. Enumerators and supervisors initiated the exercise by assigning census house numbers to buildings and preparing layout maps of the respective areas.
On the very first day of the campaign, enumerators reached 1,35,02,160 houses and marked them with official census house numbers. By 4:30 PM, work had been fully completed in 56 House Listing Blocks, while digital data collection through the mobile application had already commenced in 14,546 HLBs.

Officials described the development as a “strong beginning” toward ensuring the smooth, timely and successful implementation of Census 2027. The state administration, along with officials and field staff, is carrying out the massive exercise with full commitment and coordination.
In a significant cultural and heritage-related initiative, iconic landmarks such as Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Taj Mahal and Jhansi Fort have also been included in the census documentation process.
Officials stated that the listing and archival documentation of these historic and cultural landmarks is not only important from an administrative perspective but also serves as a valuable step toward preserving the state’s rich heritage and historical identity.
