Rohilkhand University Successfully Organises ‘No Vehicle Day’ Campaign

Bareilly: In line with the nationwide call for energy conservation and sustainable lifestyle changes given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University successfully organised a “No Vehicle Day” across its campus on Thursday.

The initiative was conducted under the guidance and appeal of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. P. Singh. From the early morning hours, entry of private vehicles into the university campus was restricted, and vehicles were parked at designated stands near the main gate.

Thereafter, faculty members, staff, students, and visitors travelled within the campus only through e-carts and electric vehicles. University Registrar Harish Chand and Controller of Examinations Sanjeev Kumar Singh also participated actively by avoiding the use of personal vehicles and walking to their offices.

Chief Proctor Prof. Ravindra Singh and Security In-Charge Sudhanshu Kumar welcomed visitors at the main entrance and encouraged them to use electric vehicles within the campus. The campaign received enthusiastic participation from teachers, employees, and students alike.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. P. Singh said that the initiative was not merely an experiment but a commitment toward future generations. He remarked that the successful observance of “No Vehicle Day” demonstrated how collective determination can contribute to energy conservation, climate change mitigation, and the vision of a self-reliant India.

He encouraged people to adopt sustainable practices such as using public transport, carpooling, travelling by rail, walking more frequently, and prioritising local products at least once a week to help create meaningful environmental change.

The university administration also appealed to the university community to follow energy-saving measures, including maintaining air-conditioner temperatures between 24-26 degrees Celsius, promoting rooftop solar installations, using PNG networks, preferring indigenous products, and switching off unnecessary electrical appliances.

Additionally, suggestions were made to minimise food wastage, conduct meetings through virtual mode wherever possible, and postpone foreign tours and study visits for six months in support of resource conservation.

The initiative has been widely appreciated as a meaningful step toward building a clean, green, and self-reliant India.
