Bareilly: A grand celebration marking International Nurses Day was organized at the Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Nursing on Tuesday, recognising the invaluable contribution of nursing professionals in healthcare and patient care. The event highlighted the dedication, compassion and commitment of nurses who play a vital role in strengthening healthcare systems and supporting communities.
The programme was held at the auditorium of SRMS College of Engineering, Technology and Research and commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana and the institution’s anthem. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, healthcare professionals and nursing students.
Welcoming the guests and participants, Gyan Prakash Sharma, Chief Matron of SRMS Institute of Medical Sciences, emphasised the dedication and humanitarian spirit associated with the nursing profession. Professor Paras Ram from the nursing department elaborated on this year’s International Nurses Day theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies,” and spoke about the growing importance of nurses in modern healthcare systems.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the “Best Nurse Award” to Ramjeet Kaur, Staff Nurse at the Radiation Oncology Ward of SRMS IMS, in recognition of her exceptional service and commitment to patient care. Her contribution was widely appreciated by the dignitaries and attendees present at the event.
The celebration also featured colourful cultural performances and dance presentations by nursing students, adding enthusiasm and vibrancy to the occasion. Students showcased their talent and expressed gratitude towards the nursing fraternity through various performances dedicated to healthcare workers.

As part of the event, winners of a poster competition based on the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies” were felicitated for their creative and thought-provoking presentations highlighting the significance of nurses in society.
Several senior officials and dignitaries attended the programme, including Engineer Subhash Mehra, Advisor to the SRMS Trust; Dr. Muththu Maheshwari, Principal of SRMS College of Nursing; Air Marshal Dr. M.S. Butola, Principal of SRMS IMS; Dr. Shailesh Saxena, Dean Academics of SRMS CETR; and Lieutenant Colonel Dr. R.P. Singh, Medical Superintendent of SRMS IMS.
The event was jointly anchored by Kripa Thomas, a student of the B.Sc Nursing Batch 2024, and Anshima Shukla from the B.Sc Nursing Batch 2022. The programme concluded with appreciation for the tireless efforts of nurses and a collective pledge to continue supporting and strengthening the nursing profession.
