Lucknow: Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) held its convocation ceremony with grandeur at the Mass Auditorium of Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar on Wednesday, awarding degrees to 7,519 students across various disciplines and recognising 405 meritorious students with academic medals.
The university conferred 232 gold medals, 165 silver medals, and eight Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor Medals, the institution’s highest academic honours, presented for outstanding academic achievement, leadership, personality and overall excellence.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Bhushan Patwardhan, Chancellor of Deccan College (Deemed to be University), Pune, and National Research Professor at the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, as the Chief Guest. Former Indian diplomat and former Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Akhilesh Mishra, was the Guest of Honour.
The medals were presented in the presence of Chancellor Er. Pankaj Agrawal, Pro-Chancellor Er. Pooja Agrawal, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Tiwari, Academic Advisor Arushi Agrawal, and other dignitaries.
A highlight of this year’s convocation was that all eight prestigious Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor Medals for the academic sessions from 2021-22 to 2024-25 were awarded to women students, underlining their exceptional academic performance and leadership.
The Chancellor Medals were awarded to Adya Sharma (Integrated BBA-LLB Honours, 2024-25), Khushi Budhraj (BTech in Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence, 2023-24), Krati Jain (BTech Biotechnology, 2022-23), and Muskan Budhraj (BTech Computer Science and Engineering, 2021-22).
The Pro-Chancellor Medals went to Praneeta Yadav (MTech Biotechnology, 2024-25), Soumya Singh (MSc Chemistry, 2023-24), Shreya Srivastava (MA Sociology, 2022-23), and Rahat Parveen (MTech Biotechnology, 2021-22).
Addressing the graduates, Prof. Patwardhan described the convocation as a celebration of years of hard work, discipline and learning rather than merely a degree-awarding ceremony. He encouraged students to embrace India’s knowledge traditions, pursue innovation with ethical values, and contribute meaningfully to society.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vijay Tiwari presented the university’s four-year progress report, highlighting significant growth in academics and infrastructure. He said student enrolment had increased from 4,764 in 2021-22 to 10,444 in 2024-25, with the university now serving nearly 12,000 students across its faculties and programmes. He emphasised that SRMU remains committed to delivering quality education, academic mentoring, modern infrastructure, value-based learning and leadership development.
Congratulating the graduates, Chancellor Er. Pankaj Agrawal said a convocation marks the beginning of a new journey of knowledge, responsibility and service. He urged students to use their education not only for personal success but also for nation-building, social development and humanitarian causes, stressing that innovation, ethics and lifelong learning are essential for success in a technology-driven world.
Guest of Honour Akhilesh Mishra drew inspiration from the Taittiriya Upanishad, urging graduates to uphold truth, fulfil their duties, pursue lifelong learning and contribute to society. He said democracy is sustained not only by rights but also by responsibilities, and called upon young people to play an active role in shaping India’s future.
The ceremony was conducted by Controller of Examinations Prof. (Dr.) Akanksha Nigam and was attended by deans, directors, heads of departments, faculty members and university officials.
