Two-Day UPCCDSICON and SRMS Medicine Update Conference Concludes at SRMS Medical College

Bareilly: The two-day conference “Second UPCCDSICON” and the sixth edition of “SRMS Medicine Update” concluded successfully at SRMS Medical College on Sunday. The conference witnessed extensive discussions on lifestyle-related diseases such as cardio-metabolic disorders and fatty liver disease, with experts emphasizing prevention alongside modern treatment strategies.

The event was jointly organised by the Department of General Medicine at SRMS Medical College, the Bareilly chapter of the Association of Physicians of India, and the Uttar Pradesh chapter of the Clinico Cardio Diabetes Society of India.

Experts Discuss Modern Management of Lifestyle Diseases

During six scientific sessions held on the second day, leading physicians and specialists from across the country deliberated on cardio-metabolic diseases, Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), CKM syndrome, and modern management approaches for cardio-renal-diabetes disorders.

In the “Cardio-Metabolic Crossroads” session, experts including Dr. Rajiv Goyal, Dr. Rajiv Srivastava, Dr. Satendra Sonkar, Dr. Priyanka Budhwani, Dr. Satish Kumar, and Dr. Princy Jain shared their views on critical issues including the limitations of HbA1c, heart failure guidelines, anaemia management in CKD syndrome, cardiovascular risks in PCOS, intermittent fasting in diabetes, and subclinical hypothyroidism.

The “Heart and Sugar Interface” session featured discussions by Dr. P.K. Maheshwari and Dr. Deep Chandra Pant on metabolic links between diabetes and brain health, as well as preload optimisation in dilated cardiomyopathy.

MASLD, Obesity and Medical Education in Focus

The MASLD Masterclass on “Gender, Genetics and Gut” included lectures by Dr. Meenakshi Awasthi, Dr. Amit Goyal, and Dr. S.K. Gautam.

In the Educators’ Forum session, Dr. Nirmal Yadav, Dr. Jayant Panda, Dr. Meena Chhabra, and Dr. Sudip Saran delivered lectures on innovative teaching methodologies in medical education, exercise activity, obesity solutions, and the growing relevance of obesity medicine.

The final session, titled “Cardio Renal and Diabetes Care Redefined,” featured presentations by Dr. D. Bandopadhyay, Dr. Alok K. Gupta, Dr. Mrityunjay Singh, Dr. Parul Singhal, and Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, who shared their experiences regarding the role of semaglutide in diabetes care and the importance of diabetic foot care.

Senior Doctors and Organising Committee Attend Event

Prominent dignitaries present at the conference included Dr. A.N. Rai, organising secretary and Head of the Department of Medicine at SRMS Medical College Prof. Dr. Smita Gupta, scientific chairman Dr. Sudip Saran, Dr. Seema Seth, scientific secretary Dr. Deepak Das, and co-organising secretaries Dr. Vidyanand Jha, Dr. Tanu Agrawal, and Dr. Aanchal Agrawal.

Several senior doctors, department heads, organising committee members, and postgraduate students also attended the conference.
