STF Uttar Pradesh Arrests Ringleader of Truck Fraud and Scrap Scam

Lucknow: The Special Task Force (STF), Uttar Pradesh, achieved a major breakthrough by arresting Qasim Ahmed, the ringleader of a gang involved in illegally altering chassis numbers and registration plates of trucks obtained through fraudulent documents and finance schemes. The arrest took place on March 25, 2026, at Kekhraj Police Station area, Kaithambi, at around 10:45 PM.

Details of the accused:

  • Qasim Ahmed, son of Siddiqui Ahmed, resident of Mariadih village, Pura Mufti, Prayagraj Commissionerate.

Seized items:

  • 12 fake number plates
  • 6 forged registration documents
  • 2 mobile phones
  • 1 Tata 16-wheeler truck (No. NCH 70 Tj 4001)
  • 1 Mahindra 6-wheeler truck (without number)

The STF had received intelligence over several days regarding the gang’s operations, which included creating fake registration papers and altering chassis numbers of trucks to sell them at high prices in other states. Under the supervision of Shailesh Pratap Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, STF Field Unit, Prayagraj, and Inspector Jay Prakash Rai, the STF team, led by Sub-Inspector Vinay Tiwari and supported by personnel Abhishek Mishra, Praveen Jaiswal, Ajay Kumar Yadav, Kishan Chandra, and driver Akhand Pratap Pandey, tracked and arrested the accused at a yard in Aliganj village.

During interrogation, Qasim Ahmed admitted that the gang sourced scrap trucks from different states, created fake registration documents, altered chassis numbers, and sold them at high prices while avoiding finance repayments. He revealed that his accomplices included Mohammad Tariq and RTI agent Anil Tiwari, who facilitated document falsification and vehicle transfers across states. The gang claimed to have conducted this fraudulent operation for several years, securing profits by bypassing installment payments to finance companies.

The accused has been registered under FIR No. 165/2026, Sections 318(1), 338, 336(3), 340(2) BNS, Kekhraj Police Station, Kaithambi, with further legal proceedings underway by local police.
