Lucknow:Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 with enthusiasm and a strong message of equality and empowerment under the theme “Give to Gain.” The event was held on March 7 at the H.G. Khorana Auditorium in Lucknow.
The programme was organised by senior physician and nodal officer Dr. Prerna Kapoor from the General Hospital. Faculty members, resident doctors, nursing staff and hospital employees participated in the celebration, which combined thoughtful discussions, inspirational talks and moments of camaraderie.
Inspiring Talks on Women’s Health and Education
Several women doctors delivered short yet insightful talks on issues related to women’s health, education and professional opportunities. Speakers included senior gynaecologist Dr. Anju Rani, senior paediatrician Dr. Piyali Bhattacharya, gynaecologist Dr. Nidhi, Dr. Indu Lata from the MRH department and ophthalmologist Dr. Rachna Agarwal.
Their discussions emphasised that access to knowledge, healthcare and professional opportunities plays a crucial role in empowering women and strengthening society.
Interactive Quiz and Cultural Expressions
Adding energy to the programme, junior residents organised an engaging women-centric quiz, highlighting the achievements of women across science, medicine, nursing and other fields throughout history. The session sparked lively participation and celebrated the remarkable contributions of women across generations.
The event was further enriched by poems and heartfelt reflections shared by senior nursing officers, who spoke about their experiences of balancing professional responsibilities with family life and the determination required to overcome challenges.
Tribute to Unsung Heroes
One of the most emotional moments of the programme was the felicitation of female sanitation workers and attendants at the hospital. Their dedication and hard work in maintaining the daily functioning of the healthcare system were warmly acknowledged by the audience.

Radiodiagnosis Department Marks the Occasion
Earlier, the Department of Radiodiagnosis also observed International Women’s Day during its Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on Interventional Radiology held on March 1. The programme centred on the theme “Give to Gain,” highlighting how empowering women through opportunity, mentorship and equality ultimately strengthens institutions and communities.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Archana Gupta spoke about the historical roots of International Women’s Day and the global struggle for women’s rights.
“International Women’s Day is not just a celebration—it is a call to action. When women are given opportunities, support and leadership roles, society moves toward progress, innovation and a more just future,” she said.
She also highlighted the critical role of healthcare professionals in empowering women through accessible medical care, early diagnosis and advanced radiological services, which can significantly improve health outcomes for women and families.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge led by Professor Gupta, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting equality, supporting women’s leadership and speaking out against discrimination.
Closing the session, she urged everyone to carry forward the spirit of Women’s Day throughout the year, reminding the audience that sharing knowledge, opportunity and support leads to a stronger and more inclusive world.
