Yangon: The Indian Under-17 men’s national football team started their international friendly campaign on a high note, defeating host Myanmar 2-1 at the Thuwunna Stadium on Tuesday.
India drew first blood in the opening half, with Washington Singh Ngangom scoring in the 11th minute, followed by a strike from Gunleiba Wangheirakpam in the 24th minute, giving the visitors a comfortable lead.
Myanmar responded in the second half through Mint Myat Ko Ne, who found the net in the 54th minute, briefly bringing the home side back into contention. However, India maintained composure and held onto their lead, securing a 2-1 victory.

This friendly win serves as a warm-up for the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup 2026 in Saudi Arabia, where the young Indian squad aims to showcase their skills on a larger continental stage.
The team’s performance highlighted their attacking intent, discipline, and ability to handle pressure against international opposition, setting a positive tone for their preparations ahead of the tournament.
