CSIR-CIMAP Marks National Science Day with Focus on Women-Led Innovation

Lucknow: CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) celebrated National Science Day with great enthusiasm at its campus, highlighting the “Spirit of Discovery and Innovation.” The event brought together scientists, research scholars, students, and innovators to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Nobel Laureate C. V. Raman.

Organized under the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” the daylong programme reflected the institute’s commitment to nurturing scientific temper and promoting innovation aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat-2047. The celebrations were conducted under the guidance and leadership of the Director, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed.

Inspiring Lecture on Research and Innovation

The event was graced by Dr. Ritu Trivedi, Scientist ‘G’ at CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), as the Chief Guest. Delivering the National Science Day Lecture on “Cutting-edge Research Leads to Market-driven Innovations,” Dr. Trivedi emphasized the importance of translating scientific research into real-world applications.

She highlighted that modern research must extend beyond laboratory findings to commercialization, startup incubation, and societal impact. Stressing the growing participation of women in scientific research, she remarked that inclusive and supportive ecosystems are crucial for fostering sustainable innovation and contributing to national economic growth.

Leadership and Mentorship in Science

The programme was presided over by Outstanding Scientist Dr. Prabodh Kumar Trivedi, who underscored the pivotal role of senior scientists in mentoring young researchers and students. In his address, he described CSIR-CIMAP as a role model institution in the field of scientific research and innovation, both nationally and globally. He encouraged budding scientists to pursue excellence with dedication and a spirit of inquiry.

Industry Collaboration for Herbal Innovation

A significant highlight of the event was the formal signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between CSIR-CIMAP and Dewdrops Wellness Pvt. Ltd. The agreement aims at market seeding and commercialization of PsoriaCIM cream, an herbal product developed through scientific research at the institute.

This collaboration represents an important step in strengthening industry linkages, ensuring quality product dissemination, and promoting innovation within the herbal and medicinal plant sector. It also reflects CSIR-CIMAP’s continued efforts to bridge the gap between laboratory research and market-ready solutions.

Engaging Young Minds

An Open Day programme was organized as part of the celebrations, drawing participation from over 225 students from various schools and colleges. Students from National PG College, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Jayprakash Sarvodaya Vidyalaya (Unnao), and other institutions visited the campus.

The students were provided with first-hand exposure to research laboratories, medicinal and aromatic plant fields, and ongoing scientific projects. The interactive sessions offered valuable insights into plant-based research, biotechnology, and the role of science in sustainable development.

A Celebration of Scientific Temper

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Scientist-G, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, students, and organizing teams for contributing to the success of the event.

By celebrating National Science Day with a special focus on women-led innovation and industry collaboration, CSIR-CIMAP reaffirmed its dedication to advancing research, fostering inclusivity, and supporting India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
