New Delhi: The Gurugram Police have arrested a man and his associate for allegedly deceiving a 25-year-old woman from Bihar by concealing his religious identity, entering into marriage under false pretences, and later subjecting her to physical assault and pressure to convert religion, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Arif Khan (35), who allegedly used the alias Aarav, and his associate Tarif Khan (34). Both are residents of Dhunela village near Sohna in Gurugram. Police said Arif is already married and is the father of three children.

According to the investigation, the woman first came into contact with Tarif when he visited her workplace, where she was employed in the insurance sector. Tarif later introduced her to Arif, who allegedly presented himself as an unmarried Hindu contractor. Investigators claim Arif gained her trust by purchasing an insurance policy through her and gradually developed a personal relationship.
Police said Arif also met the woman’s family while maintaining the false identity. The two were married on November 4, 2022, at a temple. After the marriage, the woman allegedly discovered his real identity and was subjected to pressure from Arif and his family to convert to Islam.

The complaint further alleges that when the woman became pregnant, Arif attempted to force her to undergo an abortion. When doctors declined, she was allegedly assaulted. The woman also stated that on January 26, 2026, Arif visited her rented accommodation, physically attacked her, and threatened her with dire consequences if she refused to convert. She reportedly sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised.
Based on her complaint, police have registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Haryana Prevention of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2022. Charges have been filed against the two arrested men and six other individuals. Further investigation is underway.
