New Delhi Gears Up for Grand 77th Republic Day Celebrations on January 26

New Delhi: The national capital is all set to host a spectacular celebration of India’s 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, with the iconic Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) taking centre stage. From heightened security and traffic advisories to elaborate cultural and military preparations, New Delhi is buzzing with patriotic fervour as the country prepares to mark one of its most significant national events.

The main parade will begin around 10:30 am, following the arrival of the President of India and the ceremonial flag hoisting between 10:00 and 10:15 am. The event, lasting approximately 90 minutes, will commence at Vijay Chowk, move along Kartavya Path, pass the C-Hexagon near the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose statue, continue via Tilak Marg, and conclude near the Red Fort.

Theme and Chief Guests

This year’s Republic Day celebrations revolve around the theme “150 Years of Vande Mataram”, symbolising cultural pride and India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. In a notable diplomatic gesture, India has invited two chief guests from the European UnionUrsula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, former Prime Minister of Portugal and current President of the European Council—highlighting the growing strategic partnership between India and the EU.

Parade Highlights and Firsts

The parade will showcase India’s military strength, cultural diversity, and technological progress. Highlights include:

  • 18 marching contingents from the Army, Navy, Air Force, paramilitary forces, NCC, and other units.
  • 13 military bands and vibrant cultural performances.
  • 13 tableaux representing states, union territories, and central ministries, depicting India’s heritage, development, and unity.

Several new and innovative elements will make their debut this year, such as the Bhairav Battalion, Bactrian camels, a first-ever battle array display showcasing military modernisation, indigenous drones, Robotic Mules, and advanced homegrown defence technologies. A thrilling Indian Air Force flypast will crown the event.

Inclusivity and Special Guests

Around 10,000 special guests have been invited, including couples from each State and Union Territory dressed in traditional attire, beneficiaries of government welfare schemes, and individuals representing stories of empowerment and national integration.

Security, Traffic, and Weather Preparedness

Authorities have put in place multi-layered security arrangements, including NSG commandos, snipers on high-rise buildings, anti-aircraft guns, mobile hit teams, and extensive deployment of Delhi Police along the nearly 8-km parade route.
Strict guidelines prohibit items such as drones, large cameras, bags, food items, water bottles, and umbrellas. Attendees are advised to carry only valid tickets and identification.

Major traffic restrictions and diversions are in force across central Delhi and routes from Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and adjoining areas. Delhi Metro services will begin early with enhanced security checks, with designated stations such as Udyog Bhawan Metro for South Enclosure access.

Despite rain and thunderstorms during the full-dress rehearsal on January 23, arrangements proceeded smoothly, indicating robust preparedness regardless of weather conditions.

Beyond the Parade

Republic Day celebrations extend beyond January 26, with related events such as the Beating Retreat ceremony, wreath-laying at national memorials, cultural programmes, and festive decorations across landmarks like India Gate and the Red Fort. Public spaces will host cultural performances, food stalls, and live screenings, adding to the nationwide celebrations.

With its blend of military might, cultural splendour, technological innovation, and inclusive spirit, New Delhi’s Republic Day celebrations promise an unforgettable showcase of India’s unity and progress.

Jai Hind.
