New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Thursday held its Press Preview for the Republic Day Parade (RDP) 2026, offering a comprehensive glimpse into its marching contingent, veterans’ tableau and the aerial flypast that will be showcased during the national celebrations at Kartavya Path.
Briefing the media, the IAF highlighted that the Republic Day Parade is a powerful symbol of national unity, reflecting India’s military strength, discipline and technological advancement. In line with its motto, “Touch the Sky with Glory,” all participating elements will underline the IAF’s unwavering commitment to protecting the nation’s airspace while contributing to nation-building.

For Republic Day 2026, the Indian Air Force is the lead service responsible for conducting all ceremonial events. The ceremonial Guard of Honour that marks the commencement of the parade, during which the Prime Minister will pay homage to the fallen heroes, will be commanded by Squadron Leader Hemant Singh Katyal.
The briefing began with details of the IAF marching contingent, which represents a seamless blend of tradition and modernity. The contingent comprises 144 young Air Warriors selected from across the force for their exemplary military bearing. After weeks of rigorous training, the contingent is set to uphold the proud legacy and core values of the Indian Air Force. It will be led by Squadron Leader Jagdesh Kumar, with Squadron Leader Nikita Choudhary, Flight Lieutenant Prakhar Chandrakar and Flight Lieutenant Dinesh serving as supernumerary officers.
Supporting the marching contingent will be the Indian Air Force Band, led by Sergeant Charles Antony Daniel. The band includes 72 elite musicians, comprising 57 Agniveervayu personnel and, for the first time, nine Agniveervayu women, along with three drum majors. As the band marches past the Presidential dais, it will perform the tune “Sound Barrier,” reflecting the modern and dynamic character of the force.

A key highlight of the press preview was the unveiling of the theme for the IAF Veterans’ Tableau for Republic Day 2026: “Sangram se Rashtra Nirman Tak” (From Battle to Nation Building). The front section of the tableau will feature the Amar Jawan Jyoti along with 3D models of historic war machines, including the T-55 and Vijayanta tanks, Hunter, MiG-21, Mirage and Jaguar aircraft, INS Mysore and INS Rajput, and representations of the 1965 and 1971 wars as well as the 1999 Kargil conflict. The rear portion will focus on the contribution of veterans to national development, highlighting their voluntary roles in disaster relief, medical services, education and the Make in India initiative.
The briefing concluded with details of the Republic Day flypast, one of the most anticipated segments of the parade. The flypast will feature 29 aircraft, including 16 fighter jets, four transport aircraft and nine helicopters operating from six different bases. Arranged in eight formations, the flypast will begin with the Dhwaj formation, in which four Mi-17 IV helicopters will carry the National Flag along with the flags of the three armed services.
The aerial display will showcase frontline platforms such as the Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29 and Jaguar fighter aircraft, along with strategic assets including the C-130 and C-295 transport aircraft and the Indian Navy’s P-8I maritime patrol aircraft. Attack and utility helicopters, including the IAF’s ALH Mk IV, the Indian Army’s ALH WSI, Apache and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), will also participate, reflecting joint operational capability. A major attraction will be the “Operation Sindoor” formation, symbolising air power, precision and the IAF’s operational philosophy of being accurate, invincible and decisive.
The Press Preview reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s status as a combat-ready, integrated and future-focused force, standing as a strong pillar of national security and pride.
