Luanda: The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, arrived in Luanda, Angola, on November 8, 2025, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian President to the country. She is on a State Visit to Angola and Botswana, accompanied by Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, Shri V. Somanna, and Members of Parliament Shri Parbhubhai Nagarbhai Vasava and Smt. D. K. Aruna. On arrival at Luanda International Airport, President Murmu was warmly received by Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Mr. Tete Antonio.
On November 9, President Murmu commenced her official engagements with a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the Presidential Palace. She held one-to-one discussions and delegation-level talks with President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola.
During the meeting, President Murmu highlighted that the partnership between India and Angola rests on “mutual trust, respect, and a shared vision for the prosperity of our peoples.” She commended Angola’s ongoing developmental efforts aimed at ensuring progress and prosperity for its citizens.
Emphasizing the significance of energy cooperation, President Murmu noted that Angola continues to play a vital role in India’s energy security. The two leaders agreed to further diversify trade and investment ties in emerging sectors such as technology, agriculture, health, defence, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen collaboration within the broader framework of the India–Africa Forum Summit, ensuring deeper engagement across bilateral and multilateral fronts.

Two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged—one on cooperation in fisheries, aquaculture, and marine resources, and another on consular cooperation.
President Murmu welcomed Angola’s decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), reflecting Angola’s growing engagement in global sustainability initiatives.
Following the talks, both Presidents issued statements before the press. President Lourenço later hosted a Banquet Lunch in honour of President Murmu at the Presidential Palace.
This visit marks a significant step in deepening India–Angola relations and underscores India’s growing engagement with African nations under the spirit of friendship, cooperation, and mutual growth.
