Awareness and Counselling Session on Women’s Health organized under ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan’ by BBAU

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, under the  leadership of  Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, furthered the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan” by organizing an “Awareness and Counselling Session” focused on women’s health at the Primary School, Dadoopur Village, Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow.

The programme was conducted by the Bhagini Nivedita Women Development Cell (BNWD Cell) of the University. The session began with an interactive counselling programme highlighting the importance of balanced diet and nutrition. Special emphasis was laid on monitoring blood sugar levels, haemoglobin, vitamin D, blood pressure and the intake of folic acid, iron, calcium and mineral-rich easily available foods, particularly for children, young girls and women.

Young girls and their parents were counselled on the importance of HPV vaccine for both girls and boys up to 15 years of age. Information was also provided about the facilities made available by the Government of India under the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan’ such as women’s health check-ups, maternal and child care, etc.

This was followed by interactive discussions with the primary school students, teachers, and men and women participants of the village. Key health issues such as hypertension, diabetes, menstrual hygiene, tuberculosis, anaemia and oral cancer were explained with the help of hand-made charts and pictorial presentations.
Members of the Bhagini Nivedita Women Development Cell, research scholars and postgraduate students of the University gave practical suggestions and motivated all age groups to adopt proactive health practices.
