Lucknow : On the occasion of PM Narendra Modi’s birthday ,under ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ campaign, Lucknow University adopted 75 tuberculosis patients and distributed nutrition packets to them. Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manuka Khanna said, “TB-free India is the resolve of our Prime Minister and we will eradicate it like polio. “She added that the drive will continue and more and more patients will be adopted.She also said the initiative was inspired by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel. The university administration and teachers will now help TB patients in the form of ‘Nikshay Mitra’.
Prof Rakesh Dwivedi, Head, Department of Social Work and Director, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Research Chair, said the programme will not only help patients but also strengthen the TB eradication campaign. He made it clear that “TB is associated with poverty, malnutrition and uncleanliness and collective efforts are necessary against it. ”

The event was held at the University Auditorium with the participation of teachers, officials and students. Protein-rich foods like sattu, jaggery, gram, horlicks, sesame laddoos and groundnuts were distributed to the patients.
