Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has strongly criticised the Bihar government over the recent murder of businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka in Patna. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Mayawati blamed the BJP-JD(U) coalition for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, just ahead of the Assembly elections.
Calling the killing a “sensational and alarming incident,” the BSP chief pointed out that Bihar has long faced issues of violence, caste-based exploitation, and atrocities against Dalits, the backward classes, and poor women. However, the murder of a prominent industrialist from the ruling BJP has, according to her, exposed the fragile security framework and further intensified the political heat in the state.
Mayawati urged the Election Commission to immediately take note of the incident. “If appropriate action is taken now, it would help ensure peaceful and fair elections in the state,” she asserted.
The BSP leader also questioned the timing and motive behind such violent events during the ongoing special revision of the voter list. She hinted that these developments raise concerns over political misuse and manipulation during the election period, putting the state’s ruling alliance under scrutiny.

Emphasising her party’s commitment to representing Dalits, backward communities, labourers, and the marginalised, Mayawati reaffirmed that the BSP will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections independently, relying solely on the support of its cadre and well-wishers.
She appealed to the Election Commission to take firm and timely steps to prevent the misuse of government machinery and curb the influence of muscle power, money power, and criminal elements during the elections. “Only then can a free and fair democratic process be ensured,” she concluded.
