Lucknow — Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) National President and former four-time Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kumari Mayawati, launched a scathing attack on both the BJP and the Congress during a press conference held today. Addressing key national concerns, Mayawati accused successive governments of tampering with the Constitution for political gains and undermining the rights of the marginalized.
She said that while Dr. B.R. Ambedkar gave India one of the most progressive and humanitarian Constitutions in the world, both the Congress and the BJP-led NDA governments have failed to uphold it in letter and spirit. “Time and again, these parties have prioritized their own ideological and political interests over constitutional integrity,” she stated.
Mayawati condemned the repeated amendments to the Constitution, calling them “unnecessary and dangerous,” and claimed they dilute the core Ambedkarite vision. “Both Congress and BJP are guilty of imposing policies that hurt the poor, farmers, women, small traders, labourers, and backward classes. And more worryingly, they are often united behind the scenes despite appearing as adversaries in public.”
“Hidden Agenda to Undermine Reservations”
Touching on the issue of reservations, she warned that many recent moves—particularly relating to Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and OBCs—have weakened constitutional safeguards. “There is a quiet conspiracy to dismantle Ambedkar’s pro-equality framework,” she warned, “and the BSP will not tolerate any attempt to reintroduce caste-based oppression.”
Mayawati also addressed the demand made by RSS to remove the words ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ from the Preamble of the Constitution. She reiterated that such efforts will be met with strong public opposition. “Any attempt to strip the Constitution of these values will face fierce resistance—not just from the BSP but also from millions of oppressed people who have found dignity through constitutional provisions.”
Concerns Over Women’s Safety, Linguistic Politics, and Voter List Manipulation
She further expressed concern about the rising communal violence, language-based politics, and voter list manipulation, urging the Election Commission to act transparently and take all political parties into confidence.
On women’s safety, especially in states like West Bengal, Mayawati said, “The central and state governments must treat this issue as a priority. No woman in this country feels completely safe today.”

She also called for the Centre to remain vigilant against terror threats and to involve the Opposition in good faith when taking major international policy decisions.
Strengthening Party Organisation Nationwide
On the party front, Mayawati said BSP has intensified its organizational restructuring across India since the beginning of 2025. Key review meetings were held in Delhi (January 29, May 18) and Lucknow (March 2) to strengthen committees and grassroots-level mobilization.
“Our focus is not media theatrics but real groundwork,” she said. “We are working tirelessly to expand our base across all states and will contest every upcoming Assembly, Lok Sabha, and local body election with full force.”
Mayawati ended her address with a powerful message:
“If the constitutional rights of Dalits and backward communities are attacked, we will take to the streets. The fight to protect Ambedkar’s legacy will continue.”
Jai Bhim. Jai Bharat.
