Yogi Adityanath Launches ₹4,000-Crore UP-AGREES Initiative

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has unveiled the ₹4,000-crore UP-AGREES (Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Growth and Rural Enterprise Ecosystem Strengthening) initiative, aimed at enhancing agricultural production by 35% and empowering rural businesses.

According to an official statement, the initiative marks a significant step in increasing agricultural output and strengthening the state’s rural economy. It aims to increase crop yields from 10 quintals per acre to 14–15 quintals, with the project spanning six years, concluding in 2029–2030.

Key Objectives of the UP-AGREES Initiative

  • Boost Agricultural Production: The project seeks to enhance the state’s agricultural output by 30–35%.
  • Strengthen Rural Ecosystem: It will focus on rural business development and farmer empowerment.
  • Enhance Export Potential: Currently the third-largest exporter of food grains in India, Uttar Pradesh aims to further its contribution to the nation’s agricultural exports.

Funding and Support

The project is supported by a ₹2,737 crore loan from the World Bank, while the Uttar Pradesh government is contributing ₹1,166 crore. Highlighting the state’s agricultural prowess, CM Adityanath said, “With 75% of its land under cultivation, Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of wheat, potatoes, mangoes, guavas, peas, watermelons, honey, and mushrooms in India.”

The initiative is expected to significantly benefit the agricultural workforce and food producers, offering them the tools and resources to enhance productivity. By advancing agricultural techniques and boosting rural enterprises, the state aims to position itself as a leader in agricultural innovation.
