Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has authorized the transfer of land for the Agra Metro Rail Project. On March 10, the government approved the land transfer plans for the first and second phases of the Agra Metro, marking a significant step forward in the state’s urban transportation infrastructure.
According to Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, the cabinet has sanctioned the free transfer of land from the Horticulture and Food Processing Department to the Housing and Urban Planning Department. This move will facilitate the development of the first corridor of the Agra Metro Rail Project under the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL).
Key Land Transfers and Lease Agreements
The Housing and Urban Planning Department will lease 8,684.68 square meters of land, previously owned by the Horticulture and Food Processing Department, for 90 years at a nominal fee of Rs 1, with an option to renew the lease every 30 years.
Additionally, the cabinet has approved the transfer of 20,753 square meters of property from the Home Department for the project’s second corridor. The lease for this land will also be structured under similar terms, ensuring the long-term development of the metro network in Agra.
Progress on Agra Metro’s Infrastructure
The Agra Metro Rail Project continues to progress rapidly, with notable advancements in its tunnel construction work. At the S.N. Medical College Station site, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) “Yamuna” has achieved its fourth breakthrough in the balance section, a significant milestone in the underground segment of the metro project. According to an official statement from UPMRCL, this marks another achievement for the Agra Metro team in their commitment to completing the project on schedule.
The balance section’s underground stations—Medical College, Agra College, Raja Ki Mandi, and RBS College—are nearing completion. “This innovation has resulted in the successful completion of the upline tunnel from Agra College to S.N. Medical College,” the statement added.
The Agra Metro Rail Project is expected to enhance urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and contribute to the city’s sustainable development, aligning with the state government’s vision for modern transportation infrastructure.
