Chandauli: In a significant development, a suspended constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police has been arrested for allegedly assisting cattle smugglers by sharing sensitive information on police movement and patrol routes in Chandauli.
The accused, Satyendra Yadav (32), was posted in Chandauli and was under suspension at the time of his arrest. He was apprehended from his native district Ambedkar Nagar, officials confirmed.
According to police sources, Yadav allegedly received payments from cattle smugglers through both online and offline channels in exchange for providing real-time intelligence. This included details of police movement, patrolling patterns, and suggested routes to help smugglers evade detection while transporting cattle across district borders.
Akash Patel, Superintendent of Police (SP), said the constable’s role came to light during the investigation of a local आरोपी, Shyam Babu, who was recently arrested in a smuggling case. Analysis of mobile phone data, including WhatsApp calls and chats recovered from Babu’s device, established regular contact between the two.
During interrogation, Babu reportedly revealed that Yadav had been assisting multiple smuggling operations over a period of time. Police sources added that Yadav had earlier been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for similar offences.

Authorities highlighted the scale of the crackdown on cattle smuggling in the district. Since January 1 this year, police in Chandauli have registered 46 cases involving 127 accused persons. During this period, 345 cattle heads were rescued and 55 vehicles seized.
In 2025, the district recorded 162 cases against 410 individuals, with the recovery of 1,297 cattle heads, 90 kg of beef, and 178 vehicles linked to smuggling activities.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to rooting out internal misconduct and dismantling organised smuggling networks, emphasizing that strict action will continue against those found complicit—both within and outside the force.
