NCL’s CSR initiatives are becoming a strong foundation for trust, development, and public welfare in Singrauli-Sonbhadra

Singrauli: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Miniratna company of the Government of India based in Singrauli, is continuously promoting sustainable and inclusive development in Singrauli, Sonbhadra, and the surrounding areas through its CSR initiatives.

In particular, in the last 12 years, NCL has accomplished many notable works in the field of social welfare. CSR expenditure was ₹39 crore in 2013-14, which has increased significantly to ₹146 crore in 2025-26. Over the past 12 years, NCL has spent ₹1370 crore on sustainable social development in the Singrauli region, bringing positive change in the lives of approximately 1 million people through various public welfare initiatives.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, the company’s CSR initiatives in Singrauli, Sonbhadra, and surrounding areas are realizing the goal of inclusive and sustainable development. These initiatives are bringing significant changes to the Singrauli region in areas such as education, health, empowerment of persons with disabilities, environmental protection, skill development, clean drinking water, infrastructure development, and rural livelihoods.

Mining education to gain a new dimension
Under its CSR initiative, NCL is providing financial support to the Institute of Mining Technology being established in Singrauli at a cost of approximately ₹76 crore. This institute will provide quality education in mining engineering tailored to the industrial needs of the region. The institute will be managed by the Directorate of Technical Education, Bhopal.

Strong rehabilitation center for persons with disabilities
The District Disability Rehabilitation Center operated by NCL is playing a complementary role in realizing the goals of the Central and State governments to empower persons with disabilities and integrate them into mainstream society. Through this center, NCL is making meaningful efforts to empower the differently-abled in Singrauli (Madhya Pradesh), Sonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh), and Surajpur (Chhattisgarh). Under this CSR initiative, approximately 2,000 differently-abled individuals annually benefit from speech therapy, physiotherapy, essential counseling, prosthetic devices, and other rehabilitation services.

Charak Scheme Provides Support for People Suffering from Serious/Life-threatening Illnesses
Through the CSR initiative “Charak – Community Health: A Responsive Action for KoylaNchal,” NCL is providing free treatment to people living within the company’s operational area (Singrauli region) who suffer from identified serious/life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer, tuberculosis, HIV, heart disease, and kidney transplantation, and are economically disadvantaged. To date, under this project, which is being implemented with a total budget of ₹8.50 crore, financial assistance has been provided to 13 patients suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

Environmental Enhancement through Green CSR
Through Green CSR initiatives, NCL has made significant progress in water conservation and groundwater improvement by spending ₹9.53 crore on activities such as cleaning the catchment area of ​​the Gopad and Mayar rivers in the local area, constructing check dams and percolation dams. This project has helped increase water availability in the area and prevent soil erosion.

Employment Creation through the CSR Initiative ‘Kaushal’
NCL has spent ₹3.86 crore on the development of ITI Vaidhan in Singrauli and ITI Duddhi in Sonbhadra. More than 1,350 youth, women, and project-affected families have been provided employment-oriented training in various technical trades.

Tribal Children Getting Quality Education
Nearly 300 tribal and underprivileged students are benefiting from the comprehensive development work undertaken by NCL at Seva Kunj Ashram, Chapki, Sonbhadra. Modern facilities such as auditoriums, indoor sports, and archery training have been developed under the project.

Children with congenital heart disease are receiving the gift of life through ‘Nanha-sa-Dil-NCL’
Under the ‘Nanha-sa-Dil-NCL’ project, which aims to treat children with congenital heart disease, more than 38,000 children have been screened in Singrauli, Sonbhadra, and surrounding areas. So far, 240 children have received free heart surgery.

Local women are becoming self-reliant through the ‘Small Holders Poultry Project’

NCL’s ‘Small Holders Poultry Project’ is playing a vital role in improving the economic status of tribal families, especially women. This scheme has benefited 1,050 tribal families so far, and backward linkages will benefit an additional 1,500 families in the near future.

Over 10,000 households electrified in Chitrangi
Under CSR initiatives by NCL, 10,253 households have been electrified in Chitrangi block, improving the living standards of approximately 40,000 people.
