IMD predicts an even more hotter summer lies ahead

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that there will be heat wave in most of the states of the country in June.

“Monthly maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal over most parts of the country in June, except over many parts of southern peninsular India,” the IMD said.

The IMD forecast said above normal heat is likely over most parts of northwest India and adjoining areas of central India during the next month.

“Monthly minimum temperatures are likely to be above normal in most parts of the country in June,” IMD said. “Minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal except over extreme northern parts of northwest India and some parts of east and north-east India.”

The IMD said vulnerable populations such as the elderly and people with health problems face the risk of heat-related illnesses during the summer. Prolonged extreme heat puts pressure on infrastructure, and people also become dehydrated.

IMD further said, “Officials should open cooling centers and work proactively for this by issuing advisories. These steps are important to protect public health during the summer.

To stay safe during summer, one needs to stay hydrated, stay in as cool an environment as possible and avoid vigorous activities during summer hours.
