Gonda: The Gonda City Congress Committee held a key organisational meeting at the Congress Bhawan on Saturday, during which new members were inducted into the party, organisational appointments were announced and concern was expressed over the city’s worsening waterlogging and drainage problems.
The meeting was chaired by Shahid Ali Qureshi, councillor and City Congress Committee President, while Dr Syed Abdul Mujeeb, Control Room In-charge, conducted the proceedings.
During the meeting, Farzana Begum and Mohabbat Shah formally joined the Congress party. The committee also appointed Zakir Ali Bhai as President of the Rajendra Nath Lahiri Mandal City Congress Committee, Gonda, while Raju was named the party’s Publicity Minister.
The meeting prominently focused on the severe drainage issues affecting Gonda during the monsoon season. Party leaders said persistent waterlogging has caused significant inconvenience to residents and called for immediate corrective measures by the authorities.
Addressing the gathering, Shahid Ali Qureshi alleged that waterlogging has become a recurring problem in the city every rainy season due to clogged drains and inadequate civic infrastructure. He criticised the state government for failing to resolve the issue and warned that if concrete action is not taken soon, the City Congress Committee will approach senior officials, submit a memorandum and launch a major public agitation.

He also welcomed the induction of new members and the appointment of new office-bearers, saying their inclusion would further strengthen the organisation. Qureshi said the party would continue to raise public issues and work to expand the Congress’s presence in Gonda.
Party workers expressed satisfaction over the new appointments and membership drive, stating that the additions would help broaden the party’s organisational base in the district.
Among those present at the meeting were former Pradesh Secretary Dr Syed Abdul Mujeeb, City OBC President Mohammad Rizwan, Mandal Vice-President Nirmala Devi, Raju, Mohabbat Ali, Janki Devi, and several other Congress workers.
