Lucknow: Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the 3rd edition of the Gomti Book Festival at the scenic Gomti Riverfront Park in Lucknow. The festival is a nine-day celebration from 9th to 17th November.
Addressing the media, Dr. Roshan Jacob, IAS Divisional Commissioner appealed to the people of Lucknow to be part of the Gomti Book Festival which is a unique convergence of art, literature and films. “A beautiful setting comprising sun, river, greenery, heritage of Lucknow defines Gomti Book Fair,” she said. Dr. Jacob said that more than 50 renowned writers will be part of the festival. She urged the youngsters to take out time and meet the authors and get involved in quality literary discussions. She informed that an international Chuldren film festival is being introduced for the first. She assured that all necessary arrangements are being made for the festival and steps are being taken to mobilize the people of Lucknow.
Surya Pal Gangwar, IAS, District Magistrate, Lucknow said that is a matter of pride for Lucknow that National Book Trust, India has chosen this city to organise its Gomti Book Fair on the banks of the river. “I want to thank National Book Trust for picking Lucknow as the destination for this festival which has something for people from all walks of life,” he said, adding, “Books play an important role especially in today’s time where Internet and social media are big distractors. Books show the direction and these festivals play an important role in bringing youngsters back to books.” He appealed to the people of Lucknow and adjoining districts to make use of this opportunity and urged parents to bring their children to the festival in large numbers.
Yuvraj Malik, Director, National Book Trust, India said that Gomti Book Festival is not just a book fair but a festival which is a mix of arts, literature and culture. “It is not just for children. There is something for everyone and families can come together and have fun,” he said, adding, “The morning sessions specifically focus on children. Besides, book discussions, talk shows, Meet the Author programme, food festival, surprise gifts, free workshops for young authors, free counselling camps for aspirants along with cultural activities will be part of the festival.” He said that the NBT is taking the global with International Children’s Film Festival.
Malik said that keeping with the tradition of Lucknow, Kavi Sammelan and Mushayaras will also be organised. Thanking the administration for their support, Malik said that the coordination between various agencies for something like a book fair is unprecedented. He emphasized on the ‘Lekhak Ganj’ (Author’s Corner) that will be one of the highlights of the festival along with Children’s Film Festival. Calling them brand ambassadors of the Gomti Book Fair, Malik appealed to the people to participate in large numbers and make it a grand success. Indrajit Singh, Municipal Commissioner, Lucknow was also present on the occasion.
