Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, observed the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 122nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri with reverence and respect at the university’s administrative building on Friday.
The Registrar, Finance Officer, teachers and university officials paid floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

In his message, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anil Kumar Rai said Gandhi’s life embodied truth, non-violence, swadeshi, cleanliness and commitment to moral values. By making truth and non-violence instruments of public mobilisation, Gandhi connected the freedom movement with widespread public participation.
He described Lal Bahadur Shastri as an enduring symbol of simplicity, honesty, dedication to duty and national service. His call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, he said, highlighted the importance of both national security and food production.

Prof. Rai urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the values and lives of the two national leaders, discharge their responsibilities sincerely and contribute actively to nation-building.
A discussion session and bhajan programme followed. Dr Jyoti Pandey, patron of the University Cultural Centre, coordinated a musical presentation by students. Swastika, Krishnangi, Riya, Ishika and Anchal, along with Manoj Pandey, Hitesh Tikkha and Harish, participated in the bhajan performances commemorating Gandhi and Shastri.
Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Finance Officer Mahima Chand, Dr Jyoti Pandey, Prof Ravindra, Prof Sharad Kumar, Prof Amit Kumar Singh, Prof Vinay Verma, Gaurav Mishra, Anil Kumar, Tapan Verma and others attended the programme along with teachers, officials, employees and a large number of students.
