Shravasti: In view of the upcoming monsoon season and the possibility of flooding, Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal chaired a divisional-level review meeting to assess preparedness for flood relief and rescue operations. The meeting was held at the Maharaja Suheldev Auditorium, where district-level officials from across the division presented updates on measures undertaken so far.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner conducted a detailed, point-by-point review of flood management preparations and instructed all concerned departments to ensure that every necessary arrangement is completed well before any emergency situation arises.
Emphasizing the importance of proactive planning, Nagpal directed officials to keep all identified flood shelters fully functional and properly maintained. She stressed that adequate medical facilities must be available at every shelter to ensure the health and safety of displaced residents in the event of flooding.
Referring to government guidelines and local conditions, the Commissioner instructed officials to address any remaining shortcomings immediately and complete all pending works on a war footing. She also directed authorities to ensure that flood shelters have been properly identified and that all required personnel have been assigned their duties in advance.
The review highlighted the need for timely procurement and availability of relief materials. Districts where tenders for relief supplies are yet to be finalized were instructed to complete the process within June. Officials were also directed to deploy medical and surveillance teams across all districts to strengthen emergency response mechanisms.
To enhance preparedness, district administrations will organize pre-flood training programmes for government officials, boat operators, and designated disaster volunteers (Aapda Mitras). These training sessions are aimed at equipping frontline personnel with the skills needed to respond effectively during flood situations.

The Commissioner further emphasized the importance of public awareness and directed officials to organize Relief Chaupals at the village level. These community outreach programmes will help educate residents about safety measures, evacuation procedures, and the actions to be taken during floods.
Drawing lessons from previous flood experiences, Nagpal said that all possible measures are being taken to safeguard lives and minimize hardships for citizens. She urged officials to maintain close coordination and remain vigilant throughout the monsoon season.
Among those present at the meeting were Additional Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Joint Development Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Pandey, and other senior district officials from the division.
The review meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive preparedness and a swift response mechanism to tackle any flood-related challenges during the coming months.
