Gonda: District Judge Durg Narayan Singh, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan, and Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal conducted a joint inspection of the District Jail in Gonda on Saturday to review inmate welfare, healthcare facilities, and overall prison administration.
The inspection was also attended by Ankita Singh, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, along with senior jail officials and administrative staff.
During the visit, the officials interacted directly with inmates to assess the facilities being provided inside the prison and to understand any grievances or concerns they might have. They reviewed arrangements related to accommodation, healthcare, food, sanitation, and other essential services available to prisoners.
The inspection team visited various sections of the jail, including the hospital ward, barracks, kitchen, store room, and library. At the jail hospital, the officials met inmates undergoing treatment and inquired about their health conditions and medical care. They directed prison authorities to ensure regular health check-ups and timely medical assistance for all inmates.
District Judge Singh, District Magistrate Niranjan, and SP Jaiswal instructed jail officials to ensure that all facilities and services are provided strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Jail Manual. They emphasized the importance of maintaining humane conditions and safeguarding the rights and well-being of prisoners.
Special attention was given to legal aid for inmates. The officials directed that prisoners who do not have legal representation should be provided access to government-appointed lawyers through the appropriate legal aid mechanisms.

During her interaction with women inmates, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan assured them that legal assistance would be arranged for anyone lacking access to a lawyer. She encouraged inmates to inform authorities about any such requirement so that necessary support could be provided promptly.
The inspection also focused on ensuring transparency in prison management and strengthening welfare measures for inmates. Officials reviewed the functioning of various facilities and instructed jail authorities to address any deficiencies without delay.
Jail Superintendent, Deputy Jailer, prison medical officers, and other officials were present during the inspection and briefed the visiting dignitaries on the functioning of the prison and ongoing welfare initiatives.
The joint inspection reflected the administration’s commitment to ensuring proper prison management, inmate welfare, healthcare services, and access to justice for all prisoners.
