Gonda: Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal has directed officials to intensify tourism development initiatives across their respective districts and utilize tourism as a catalyst for regional growth, employment generation, and economic development. She emphasized that well-planned tourism projects can significantly enhance the religious, cultural, and historical identity of the region while creating new opportunities for local communities.
The directions were issued during a review meeting of the Shri Devipatan Dham Teerth Vikas Parishad, Balrampur, held at the Maharaja Suheldev Auditorium in the Commissioner’s Office, Gonda. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of tourism projects approved and being implemented by the Tourism Department across various districts of the Devipatan Division.
During the review, the Commissioner examined the status of ongoing tourism development projects and sought detailed updates on construction activities, financial progress, and issues affecting implementation. She instructed all executing agencies and concerned officials to ensure that projects are completed within the stipulated timelines while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
A major highlight of the meeting was the proposal to enhance the visitor experience at Swami Narayan Temple in Chhapia. Commissioner Nagpal directed officials to promptly send a proposal to the state government for the installation of a Laser Light and Sound Show at the temple complex. She noted that such modern attractions would significantly boost the appeal of the site among pilgrims and tourists, offering an engaging and immersive experience that showcases the temple’s spiritual and historical significance.
The Commissioner observed that integrating technology-driven attractions with traditional religious destinations can provide a new identity to spiritual tourism in the region. She said that modern tourism infrastructure not only enriches the experience of domestic and international visitors but also contributes to the overall branding of important pilgrimage centers.
Emphasizing the broader benefits of tourism development, Nagpal stated that the expansion and modernization of tourist destinations play a crucial role in preserving the region’s religious, cultural, and historical heritage. At the same time, such initiatives stimulate local economies by generating employment opportunities, encouraging entrepreneurship, and increasing business activity in sectors such as hospitality, transportation, handicrafts, and retail.

She further directed officials to ensure transparency, quality control, and timely execution in all tourism-related projects. Any delays or lapses in implementation, she said, would adversely affect the region’s tourism potential and development goals.
The meeting also included a comprehensive review of the physical and financial progress of various projects under implementation. Land-related matters, administrative issues, and other pending concerns were discussed in detail. The Commissioner instructed departments to work in close coordination to remove bottlenecks and expedite project execution wherever obstacles exist.
Officials were asked to monitor project milestones regularly and adopt a proactive approach to resolving issues that may hinder progress. Stressing the importance of inter-departmental coordination, Nagpal said that seamless cooperation among departments is essential for achieving the objectives of tourism development and ensuring the successful completion of projects.
The review meeting was attended virtually by the District Magistrate of Balrampur and other district-level officials through video conferencing. Present physically were Joint Development Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Pandey, officers of the Tourism Department, representatives of executing agencies, and officials from various concerned departments.
The meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening religious and cultural tourism across the Devipatan region, with a focus on creating world-class visitor facilities, preserving heritage assets, and positioning the region as a prominent pilgrimage and tourism destination in Uttar Pradesh.
