Ahmedabad: All-rounder Jason Holder praised the disciplined and well-rounded effort of Gujarat Titans after their convincing victory over Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League, crediting early conditions and sharp bowling execution for setting up the win. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Holder said the surface initially offered moisture and steep bounce, which helped GT’s bowlers gain early control and made batting a tricky balancing act for CSK, who were forced to choose between aggression and wicket preservation. He highlighted the crucial impact of the pace attack led by Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, whose disciplined lengths and consistent pressure restricted CSK’s scoring flow and ensured a below-par total. Reflecting on IPL conditions, Holder said matches in India often swing between extremes, making adaptability vital for bowlers. He stressed the importance of execution, quickly moving on from good shots, and focusing on every delivery. Calling it a “proper cricket wicket,” he said GT maximized conditions with a clinical and intelligent performance.
Q1: Your assessment of GT’s performance today?
Jason Holder:
“You are asking the wrong person to be honest in terms of management decisions. I am not a field manager. But from a playing point of view, the boys were really well prepared. Everyone came in with confidence and executed their roles, and in this format, confidence is a big factor.”
Q2: Were you surprised by CSK’s approach with the bat?
Jason Holder:
“When we started, there was quite a bit in the wicket—moisture, and some steep bounce early on which helped our bowlers. For CSK, it was a tricky situation because they were trying to score at a good rate but also avoid losing wickets.
Our top-order bowling, especially KG and Siraj, made it difficult for them by creating constant pressure.”
Q3: Talk us through Rabada’s impact and your communication during that phase?
Jason Holder:
“My message to KG was simple—keep hitting a good length, don’t overdo the short ball, and trust your skill. He’s a world-class bowler and showed that today.
He adjusted well, added a bit more pace, and stayed focused on execution. That partnership with the ball really set the tone for us.”
Q4: How do you assess pitches like this in the IPL?
Jason Holder:
“It’s a mixed feeling. Yesterday you see 250-plus games, and today we restrict a strong side to 158.
As a cricket fan, you want balance between bat and ball. In India, conditions can vary a lot. As a bowler, you take surfaces like this any day, even with humidity, because there’s something in it.”

Q5: What is the mindset for bowlers on flat or unpredictable wickets?
Jason Holder:
“It’s not easy for bowlers here. Batters are world-class and keep improving.
You just have to know your margins—was it a good shot or a bad ball? If it’s a good shot, you move on immediately. You cannot dwell on it. The focus is always the next ball and eliminating mistakes.”
Q6: What did you make of the pitch behaviour today?
Jason Holder:
“I didn’t expect as much bounce as we got. It actually helped taller bowlers extract more out of the surface.
If you bat first, you really need to apply yourself. If you go too hard early, you can get into trouble. But if you settle, there are runs available. It was a proper cricket wicket in that sense.”
Q7: A word on your teammate’s bowling development and adaptability?
Jason Holder:
“These conditions allow a bit more assistance for bowlers, especially when there is spin and bounce.
He’s shown great adaptability—that’s his biggest strength. Even if conditions change, he adjusts quickly and finds ways to contribute. And yes, it was also nice to celebrate his birthday today.”
Holder summed up Gujarat Titans’ win as a product of smart planning, adaptability, and disciplined bowling execution. He emphasized that while IPL conditions constantly shift between high-scoring and bowler-friendly surfaces, success depends on staying composed, sticking to plans, and making the most of moments when conditions favour the bowlers.
