New Delhi: On November 11, Vistara operated its final flight before officially merging with Air India, effective from November 12. This merger has established Air India as the only full-service airline in India, marking a significant consolidation in the aviation industry. Over the past 17 years, India has seen a reduction in full-service carriers from five to just one. This shift enhances Air India’s influence on both domestic and international routes, enabling it to operate as the sole airline offering both full-service and low-cost passenger options.
The merger aligns with Tata Group’s strategy, as it holds stakes in both Vistara and Air India, with Singapore Airlines holding a 25.1% stake in the merged entity. In the initial month after the merger, more than 115,000 passengers with Vistara tickets are expected to travel on Air India flights, reflecting the integration of operations and services. This merger symbolizes Tata Group’s ambition to strengthen its position in Indian aviation, providing a seamless experience for passengers while streamlining airline offerings.
