Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma participated in a series of service and recognition programmes during his visit to Mau under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, including a ceremony honouring serving and former soldiers and a community meal with sanitation workers.
At a soldiers’ felicitation programme organised at the Community Hall, Sharma honoured soldiers and ex-servicemen for their contribution to national security. Paying tribute to their courage, sacrifice and dedication, he said the contribution of soldiers guarding the country’s borders was invaluable. Their commitment enables citizens to carry out their responsibilities in a secure environment, he said, adding that respecting and expressing gratitude towards soldiers and their families is a collective responsibility.

Sharma said the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan aims to strengthen dialogue with different sections of society. He also highlighted the focus on public service, good governance and welfare under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the cleanliness campaign has developed into a mass movement.
Later, the minister participated in a community meal with safai mitras (sanitation workers) and interacted with them to understand their work, facilities and concerns. He said sanitation workers play a crucial role in keeping cities clean and healthy through their daily efforts and dedication.

Sharma directed officials to remain sensitive to the needs of sanitation workers and their families and ensure that their concerns and welfare requirements receive appropriate attention.
The minister said the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan seeks to strengthen the values of respect, empathy and service towards different sections of society. He noted that while soldiers protect the nation’s borders, sanitation workers contribute to keeping cities clean and healthy, with both performing important responsibilities in service of the nation and society.
He said the government remains committed to the welfare and dignity of such workers and other karmayogis contributing to public service.
