Inter-District Bike Thief Arrested in Lucknow; 10 Stolen Motorcycles Recovered

Lucknow: Vibhuti Khand police, in coordination with the Eastern Zone Crime and Surveillance Team, have arrested an alleged inter-district motorcycle thief and recovered 10 stolen bikes at his instance. Police said the operation has helped uncover 10 vehicle theft cases registered at different police stations across Lucknow.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Tawas alias Chand, 25, a resident of Kanthela village under Kaiserganj police station in Bahraich district.

The case came to light after a Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle belonging to Vivek Deora, a resident of Vivek Khand, was allegedly stolen near Pickup Bhawan on October 5, 2026. A case was registered at Vibhuti Khand police station under Case No. 0380/2026.

According to police, two teams were formed on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East). After examining CCTV footage and acting on an informer’s tip-off, the teams arrested the accused at Naya Park in Dubagga on October 23.

During questioning, police alleged that the accused would identify Hero Splendor motorcycles in Lucknow and steal them using a master key. He would then allegedly sell the bikes in other districts at low prices, claiming they had been seized by finance companies.

The 10 recovered motorcycles were linked to theft cases reported in Thakurganj, Madiyaon, Wazirganj, Naka, Kaiserbagh, Chowk and Vibhuti Khand. Police said the theft locations of two motorcycles are still being verified.

The accused was produced before a court after the completion of the necessary legal formalities. Further investigation is underway to establish possible links with other vehicle theft cases.
