Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, held a meeting of its Academic Excellence Advisory Committee on October 22 to discuss modernising academic curricula, strengthening skill development and promoting employment-oriented education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Anil Kumar Rai and attended, both in person and virtually, by former vice-chancellors, eminent academicians and subject experts from universities across the country.

The committee reviewed the university’s existing curricula and emphasised the need to align academic programmes with industry requirements and global developments. It recommended incorporating industry-specific modules into courses and including industry experts in various boards of studies to provide students with practical exposure during their academic journey.

The experts also recommended introducing short-term, certificate and diploma courses to enhance students’ skills and employability. They stressed the importance of developing programmes that would encourage students to become job creators and entrepreneurs rather than merely job seekers.

The meeting discussed the development of new courses in aviation, pharmacy, healthcare, and Indian Knowledge Systems and values. Keeping the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 in focus, members also deliberated on foreign-language proficiency, memorandums of understanding with international universities and the formation of student clubs.

Proposals were also discussed for establishing a yoga centre, meditation centre and happiness centre on the university campus to promote students’ overall well-being.

To strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship, the committee suggested setting up an Indian Knowledge Systems Research Centre and a skill development centre named ‘Kaushal Mandapam’. It also emphasised expanding the number of startups and entrepreneurs through the university’s Incubation Foundation.

The recommendations aim to make university education more practical, multidisciplinary and responsive to emerging employment opportunities while encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

Among the prominent academicians who participated were Professors S.P. Singh, Anil Kumar Tyagi, Sudhir Singh, Durgesh Pant, Kamal Kishore, Sanjay Garg, Omendra Kumar, Anand Prakash Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra, Manoj Kumar Pandey, Amitabh Shukla, Tarun Kumar, Madhurendra Katiyar, Piyush Chaudhary, Yash Patel, Kumar Saurabh, Aditya Kumar Mishra, Jitendra Kushwaha and Naresh Gautam, along with Dr Ram Singh and other experts.

At the conclusion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Anil Kumar Rai thanked the participants and assured them that their recommendations would be considered to improve the quality, innovation and employment orientation of the university’s academic programmes.

The initiative reflects the university’s efforts to expand educational opportunities and equip students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue careers and entrepreneurial ventures at national and international levels.
