Lucknow: The staging of Shabari’s devotion, Lord Ram’s emotional anguish and Hanuman’s heroic burning of Lanka captivated audiences at the ongoing Shri Ramleela in Mahanagar on Sunday. Through powerful performances, the artistes brought several memorable episodes from the Ramcharitmanas to life, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion, emotion and excitement.

The programme began with an aarti to Goddess Kali performed by committee patron Sanjay Srivastava, general secretary Hem Pant and office-bearers Mrityunjay Pandey, Anand Singh and Neerad Lohani.

The Shabari episode emerged as the highlight of the evening, portraying the unconditional love of a devotee and Lord Ram’s compassion. Shabari’s long wait for the Lord and her unwavering faith were brought alive through verses from the Ramcharitmanas, including the lines, “Kah katha bhagati kai gaai, nij pad rajat sabahi janai.” The devotional presentation moved the audience and filled the venue with spiritual fervour.

The poignant episode of Lord Ram grieving also touched the audience, with several spectators visibly moved by the performance.

The subsequent scenes depicted Hanuman’s meeting with Lord Ram, the friendship between Ram and Sugriva, the battle between Bali and Sugriva, and Bali’s liberation at the hands of Lord Ram.

As the evening progressed, the narrative moved to the search for Mata Sita and the Ashok Vatika episode. Hanuman introduced himself to Sita as “Ram doot kapi Hanumana” and presented Lord Ram’s ring as a token of identification and reassurance.

The Hanuman-Ravana dialogue set the stage for the grand finale, in which Hanuman’s valour was showcased through the spectacular enactment of Lanka Dahan. The audience applauded the artistes for their energetic performances and effective portrayal of the epic’s dramatic moments.
