Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has directed officials of the Rural Development Department to ensure the mandatory registration of construction workers with the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCW) so that they can avail themselves of various government welfare schemes.
Following his directions, workers who have completed 90 days of employment under the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) are being registered with the BOCW Board. So far, 17.32 lakh workers have been registered across the state.

Maurya said registered workers are eligible to benefit from 17 different welfare schemes operated by the board. He directed officials to continue the registration process for all workers who have completed 90 days of work under the scheme and ensure that they are informed about the benefits available to them.
He instructed the department to send letters to registered workers detailing the various schemes run by the Labour Department, along with the benefits for which they are eligible. The initiative aims to improve awareness and ensure that workers can access the welfare assistance provided by the government.

The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the compulsory registration of all construction workers engaged in projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) on the BOCW Board portal. He said registration was essential to ensure that workers receive benefits in accordance with the board’s provisions.
Maurya pointed out that one per cent of the value of construction work bills is deducted as labour cess and deposited into the workers’ welfare fund. Registration enables eligible construction workers to access assistance and benefits financed through this fund.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, Maurya directed all concerned officials to ensure that eligible construction workers are registered without delay and receive the full benefits of the welfare schemes. He said that extending the benefits of these programmes to workers must remain a priority for the government.
