Mass Yoga Sessions Held at Amrit Sarovar Sites Across Rural Uttar Pradesh with Public Participation

Lucknow: On the occasion of the 12th International Yoga Day, mass yoga sessions were organized across rural areas of Uttar Pradesh at Amrit Sarovar sites developed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from departmental officials, employees, MGNREGA workers, and members of self-help groups, reflecting strong community engagement in promoting wellness and environmental awareness.

The initiative was conducted under the directions of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, aimed at encouraging public participation in yoga activities at Amrit Sarovar locations across the state.

These events were designed to raise awareness about yoga and promote rural health development. Amrit Sarovars, developed as symbols of water conservation and environmental protection, served as ideal venues for the collective yoga practice, reinforcing the link between physical well-being and ecological balance.

Participants, including MGNREGA workers and members of self-help groups, actively took part in the sessions and pledged to incorporate yoga into their daily routines for a healthier lifestyle. Officials highlighted the importance of yoga in improving physical fitness and mental well-being, while also emphasizing the need for community participation in the maintenance and sustainability of Amrit Sarovar sites.

The programme also underscored the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to rural development and public health enhancement through participatory initiatives.

In a related event, Rural Development Commissioner G.S. Priyadarshi participated in a yoga session held at the designated nodal district of Meerut, further encouraging widespread adoption of yoga practices at the grassroots level.

The celebrations across Amrit Sarovar locations highlighted yoga not only as a tool for individual health but also as a means to strengthen community bonding and promote environmental stewardship across rural Uttar Pradesh.
