Lucknow: In a major push to boost tourism, the government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to transform its forts, heritage sites, and eco-tourism destinations into attractive destination wedding hubs. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held in Lucknow, chaired by Tourism and Culture Minister Jayveer Singh.
The minister announced the launch of the ‘Visit My State’ campaign aimed at promoting domestic tourism and encouraging residents to explore the rich cultural, religious, and natural heritage of the state. He emphasized that heritage tourism will be developed with a strong focus on the principle of “Nation First,” turning global uncertainties into opportunities for growth.
As part of the initiative, museums across the state will offer free entry for the next two months to encourage public participation. Additionally, ‘Rahi’ tourist accommodations will provide up to 25% discount to promote affordable travel experiences within the state.
Tourism officials have also been directed to design attractive and experience-based tour packages in collaboration with tour operators for major destinations including Varanasi, Agra, Mathura, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Mirzapur, and Lucknow.
Highlighting infrastructure reforms, the minister instructed officials to minimize the use of government vehicles and adopt cost-efficient administrative practices. He also encouraged coordination with restaurant associations to offer additional discounts and improve tourist services.

Special emphasis was placed on promoting destination weddings at heritage venues, including historical forts such as Chunar Fort in Mirzapur and Chhatar Manzil in Lucknow. Officials were asked to expedite preparations to make these iconic sites wedding-ready.
Tourism department officials including Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat, Director General of Tourism Vedpati Mishra, and UPSDTC Managing Director Ashish Kumar attended the meeting.
The initiative is expected to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading heritage and wedding tourism destination in India, blending culture, economy, and sustainable tourism development.
