History-Sheeter Arrested for Firing, Extortion Bid in Lucknow

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested an accusd involved in firing and creating terror after an alleged extortion demand in the Dubagga area of the city. The arrest was made by the Thakurganj Police Station team following sustained investigation and surveillance.

According to police officials, the case dates back to January 18, 2026, when complainant Faham Zaheer, a resident of Model House in Aminabad, filed a complaint at Dubagga Police Station. He alleged that miscreants had demanded extortion money in exchange for allowing construction work at his plot in Begaria.

When the demand was not met, the accused, along with associates, allegedly opened fire and forcefully entered the under-construction building armed with sticks and weapons, with the intent to kill and intimidate.

Acting promptly, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Criminal Law Amendment Act. The investigation was later transferred to Thakurganj police for further action.

During the course of investigation, the main accused, Islam alias Olu (30), son of Naushad and a resident of Mishribagh, Balaganj, was arrested on April 1, 2026, from near Food Valley, Riverfront in Gomti Nagar. Police said further legal proceedings are underway.

Officials described the accused as a habitual offender, with 11 criminal cases already registered against him across Lucknow and other districts. His criminal history includes serious charges such as rioting, attempt to murder, arms offences, and violations under the NDPS Act.

Police added that efforts are ongoing to gather details of his involvement in other cases and to identify additional accomplices linked to the incident.

The arrest was carried out by a dedicated police team led by Inspector Omveer Singh Chauhan, along with Sub-Inspectors Rajkumar Bhadauria, Hemu Patel, Rahul Singh Solanki, and other personnel.

The swift action by the police has been appreciated locally, as it reinforces law enforcement’s commitment to maintaining public safety and curbing organized crime in the city.
