Free Glaucoma Screening Camp Held at Vivekananda Hospital in Lucknow

Lucknow: A free glaucoma screening camp was organized at Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow as part of activities marking World Glaucoma Week. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about glaucoma and promote early detection of the eye disease among patients.

The screening camp was conducted by ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist Dr. Jimmy Mittal, who examined patients and provided medical advice regarding eye health. During the camp, several patients undergoing treatment for cataract were also found to be suffering from glaucoma, highlighting the importance of regular eye check-ups.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mittal said that World Glaucoma Week is observed every year in March to increase awareness about glaucoma, a condition that can gradually damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss if not diagnosed in time. She emphasized that early detection plays a crucial role in managing the disease effectively.

The Secretary of the institute, Swami Muktinathananda, said that the hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic facilities for glaucoma treatment. He stressed the need for widespread public awareness campaigns to help people understand the risks of the disease and seek timely medical attention.

During the camp, around 50 eye patients were examined, out of which 15 were diagnosed with glaucoma. Patients were provided free consultations and medicines as required.

Doctors at the institute reiterated that timely diagnosis and treatment can significantly reduce the risk of vision loss caused by glaucoma, encouraging people—especially the elderly and those with existing eye conditions—to undergo regular eye screenings.
