Man Arrested for Abetment of Suicide in Lucknow’s Thakurganj

Lucknow: A man has been arrested by police in Lucknow for allegedly abetting the suicide of a young woman in the Thakurganj area, officials said.

According to police, the case came to light on March 8, 2026, when a complaint was lodged by Gullla, a resident of Railway Colony, Balaganj, originally from Sonawa village in Sitapur. In his written complaint, the complainant stated that he received a phone call from the mother of Raghav informing him that his daughter had allegedly died by suicide by hanging.

Based on suspicion, the complainant initially accused Raghav and a case was registered at Thakurganj Police Station under case number 0128/2026. The case was first registered under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. However, during investigation and evidence collection, police determined the incident to be a case of suicide and the section was amended to Section 108 of the BNS, relating to abetment of suicide.

During the course of investigation, police arrested the accused, identified as Piyush Agarwal alias Raghav (25), son of Prahlad Ji Agarwal, a resident of Balaganj in Lucknow. He was apprehended near Jhande Wala Chauraha following a tip-off from an informer.

After the arrest, the accused was produced before the court and, on judicial orders, was sent to the District Jail in Gosainganj. The arrest was carried out by a team led by Inspector Omveer Singh Chauhan along with Additional Inspector Shahinshah Hussain, Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar Singh, Head Constable driver Avdhesh Kumar Upadhyay, and constables Prinsuu and Neeraj Singh Rana of Thakurganj Police Station.
