Lucknow: The state government has approved the construction of a 180-metre-long pedestrian bridge over the Gomti River by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) at an estimated cost of around ₹54 crore, officials said.
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months. As part of the approval, the government has also sanctioned the first instalment of ₹18.90 crore to initiate construction work.

Designed on the theme “Muskuraiye Ki Aap Lucknow Mein Hain” (Smile, You Are in Lucknow), the pedestrian bridge is envisioned as a new urban landmark that will give the city a distinct identity and enhance its aesthetic appeal.
The bridge will be constructed near the ADCP office on the Gomti River, on the lines of Ahmedabad’s iconic Atal Bridge. Once completed, it will connect both banks of the Gomti Riverfront, significantly improving pedestrian movement and accessibility.

To ensure a unique and iconic design, the LDA had organised a national-level architectural design competition, which saw participation from around 25 architectural firms from across the country. After a detailed evaluation, the jury panel selected the design submitted by Mumbai-based firm ‘RVAMP Studio’, which will now form the basis of the bridge’s construction.
Officials said the pedestrian bridge is expected to boost footfall on the right bank of the Gomti, thereby increasing the utility of several riverfront facilities already developed in the area. These include a cricket stadium, wedding venue, children’s play area, amphitheatre, floating restaurant, and water sports facilities.
The project is being seen as a major step towards strengthening Lucknow’s riverfront infrastructure, promoting tourism, and creating vibrant public spaces along the Gomti River.
