Lucknow: The Lucknow Police have rolled out an extensive security and traffic management plan to ensure that New Year 2026 celebrations remain peaceful, safe and joyous for citizens across the city. Adopting a zero-tolerance policy against hooliganism, drunken driving and traffic rule violations, the police have warned of strict action against offenders.
Under the directions of Police Commissioner Lucknow, Amrendra Kumar Sengar, a high-level review meeting was held by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) with all Zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). During the meeting, all security arrangements and operational strategies were finalised to maintain law and order during New Year festivities.
Smart Traffic and Crowd Management
To prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement, several key measures have been announced. No-parking zones will be strictly enforced in busy areas such as Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, Chowk, Alambagh and around major malls. Vehicle owners have been instructed to use only designated multi-level parking facilities, with violations inviting penal action.
Crowded commercial hubs, including Hazratganj, have been declared pedestrian-friendly zones, where entry of vehicles will be prohibited. Strict challans will be issued to violators. Additionally, extra barricading and deployment of mobile police teams will be ensured at sensitive intersections such as Husainabad Clock Tower, Bada Imambara and other key locations to keep traffic flow uninterrupted.
Strict Security Norms at Event Venues
Hotels, malls, restaurants and bars have been directed to strictly adhere to capacity limits, ensuring that no venue allows entry beyond its sanctioned strength. Ticket sales must also align with approved capacity.
All entertainment venues must comply with prescribed operating hours, and any violation will invite stringent legal action. Venue operators have also been instructed to deploy private volunteers to assist police in parking and crowd management, facilitating smooth vehicular movement.
Zero Tolerance Security Ring
To strengthen security, additional police forces, PAC companies and special police teams have been deployed in sensitive areas. Public parks and picnic spots will also remain under enhanced surveillance.

A special drive against drunk driving will be conducted on New Year’s Eve. Random checks using breath analysers will be carried out at major routes, and anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol will face immediate legal action.
Sound Management Guidelines for New Year Events
Special directions have been issued regarding the use of sound systems during New Year programmes. Loudspeakers and sound amplifiers must operate strictly within prescribed time limits and noise norms. Organisers have been advised to maintain community harmony by keeping in mind the convenience of elderly citizens, patients and students, and to ensure controlled sound levels.
Mandatory Online Permission for Events
The Lucknow Police Commissionerate has made it mandatory to obtain prior online permission for organising any New Year-related programme. Organisers can apply through the “Citizen Services” section on the Lucknow Police website (https://lucknowpolice.up.gov.in/) well in advance of the event date.
Police Appeal to Citizens
Reiterating its commitment under the motto “Your Safety, Our Resolve,” the Lucknow Police have appealed to citizens to celebrate responsibly by following traffic rules, respecting the law and maintaining public order. People have been urged to immediately report any suspicious activity or emergency by dialling 112.
The police have called upon everyone to collectively ensure that New Year 2026 is celebrated in a peaceful, secure and joyful manner, reflecting the spirit of mutual responsibility and civic discipline.
