Large Turnout of Readers on Day Two of Prayagraj Book Fair; Religion and Spirituality Remain Major Attractions

Prayagraj: The second day of the 11-day Prayagraj Book Fair 2025, being held at The Palms Resort – Royal Garden in Katra (opposite Laxmi Talkies), witnessed a remarkable turnout of book lovers on Friday. Even though the Magh Mela is yet to begin, the book fair has already emerged as a major cultural and literary attraction for city residents and readers alike.

Based on the theme “Vision 2047: Developed India – Developed State,” the fair is drawing visitors from across age groups with its diverse collection of books and engaging cultural activities.

Organiser Manoj Singh Chandel informed that the book fair offers a rich collection of works by both established and emerging authors. A noticeable trend this year is the growing interest of readers in religious, spiritual, and philosophical literature. Books related to Shrimad Bhagwat, Bhagavad Gita, and other sacred texts are witnessing high demand. Alongside books, stalls are also displaying vibrant and gold-finish posters of various deities.

Posters featuring Lord Hanuman, Goddess Durga, child form of Lord Krishna, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Kali, Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita, and Lord Shiva are adding to the visual appeal of the fair and attracting large crowds.

The stall by Diksha Books and Stationery, Prayagraj, is offering a wide range of stationery items. Meanwhile, Samyak Prakashan has put up a stall showcasing the Constitution of India, Buddha idols, Ashoka emblem, and diaries. The Dinkar Library, Bhagalpur, is also drawing visitors with its collection of books and table calendars.

A representative from one of the book stalls shared that during the initial days, visitors are primarily browsing, gathering information, and exploring options, while a surge in book purchases is expected in the coming days.

Co-convener Manish Agrawal said that the book fair caters to diverse interests. While devotional books and posters of revered deities are attracting a large audience, there is also a wide range of children’s comics, storybooks, talking books, and stationery items. At the same time, youth and senior citizens are finding a rich collection of literary and religious books.

In addition to books, a cultural stage has been set up at the venue, hosting daily performances. A street play (nukkad natak) was staged on Friday, while cultural presentations by Jan Chetna Manch are scheduled for Saturday.

Notably, for the first time, the book fair has introduced a special stall dedicated to mutual funds, the stock market, and savings-related literature, which has emerged as a unique attraction for visitors seeking financial awareness.
