Lucknow: In view of the ongoing winter season, Lucknow District Magistrate Vishakh G. conducted an inspection of night shelters located in Jiamau and Laxman Mela Ground on Thursday to review the facilities and ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place for residents seeking refuge from the cold.
During the inspection, the District Magistrate examined the sanitation, accommodation, and overall management at both shelters. He noted that cleanliness levels were satisfactory and directed officials to ensure full preparedness, especially with regard to essential amenities. He specifically instructed that an adequate number of blankets must be made available in all night shelters.
Key observations from the inspection:
1. Jiamau Night Shelter:
The caretaker informed the District Magistrate that around 67 people are currently staying at the facility. The shelter has been divided into two blocks with separate arrangements for men and women.
The DM interacted with the occupants, who shared that they were receiving meals on time and that the shelter’s sanitation was well maintained. Cleanliness was found to be up to standard across the premises.

2. Laxman Mela Ground Night Shelter:
At this location, too, the DM found the shelter clean and properly maintained. Additionally, arrangements for bonfires (alaw) were in place to help residents stay warm during the cold nights.
Additional District Magistrate (Finance/Revenue), Additional Municipal Commissioner, Additional City Magistrate, and other officials were also present during the inspection.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no person in need is left without shelter or basic amenities during the peak winter season.
