Indian Diaspora in Japan Honors Hiroshima Victims, Commends PM Modi’s Peace Efforts

Hiroshima: The Indian community in Japan marked ‘Vishwa Seva Pakhwada 2025’ by paying tribute to the victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives to promote global peace.

The Seva Pakhwada, a fortnight-long public service campaign, runs from PM Modi’s birthday on September 17 to the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2, emphasizing humanity and peace worldwide.

Members of the Indian Minorities Federation (IMF), diaspora groups, and Japanese NGOs representing Hiroshima survivors offered floral tributes at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the atomic attacks. The group also rang the Peace Bell 75 times to honor PM Modi’s vision of global harmony.

IMF Co-Founder Prof. Himani Sood, Rajya Sabha MP and IMF Convener Satnam Singh Sandhu, and Toshiko Tanaka from the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization Nihon Hidankyo were part of the delegation. A third-generation survivor and Managing Director of Hiroshima’s Peace Culture Village also joined in paying respects. Participants formed a human chain at the Genbaku Dome, the sole building near the hypocenter that survived the 1945 blast, signaling support for global anti-nuclear and peace initiatives.

Some diaspora members wore PM Modi masks, hailing him as a “messiah for world peace,” and highlighted his teaching of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the philosophy of viewing the world as one family. Patriotic chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Vande Mataram”, and songs like “Maa Tujhe Salaam” added to the solemn and inspiring atmosphere.

Satnam Singh Sandhu emphasized that amid global conflicts, PM Modi is emerging as a global peacemaker, advocating for a harmonious future. Diaspora members, including Gujarati Pakistani Ehsan Wasi, extended birthday greetings to PM Modi and praised his efforts to foster international unity, peace, and prosperity.

The event reinforced the diaspora’s belief that PM Modi’s vision transcends national, linguistic, and ideological divides, demonstrating through India’s cultural legacy that collective peace and prosperity are attainable when humanity acts as one family.
