‘Made in UP’ to be prioritized for E-Bus Procurement: Chief Minister

LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that “Made in UP” products be prioritized in the procurement of e-buses for the state. He stated that buses purchased by the transport department in the future should, wherever possible, be manufactured in Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister said this step would accelerate the state’s industrial progress and boost local employment opportunities.

During a review meeting of the Transport Department and the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), the Chief Minister made it clear that construction of bus stations must be expedited, passenger convenience should be paramount, and special attention must be given to road safety. He also emphasized the need to promote the operation of electric buses and make every possible effort to increase revenue.

During the presentation, officials informed the meeting that UPSRTC is developing 23 bus stations into world-class terminals on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The development of an additional 54 bus stations is proposed in the second phase, while the construction of 50 bus stations is already in progress. UPSRTC is also establishing electric depots in 8 cities, where 4 to 8 universal chargers with a capacity of 240 kW will be installed. The Chief Minister directed officials to identify new routes for smooth commuting and encourage private sector participation.

The Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction that more than 78 lakh people availed the benefit of free travel for mothers, sisters, and one companion for three days on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Discussing the achievements of the transport department, officials stated that 37.9 lakh new vehicles were registered in the state in the financial year 2024-25, while more than 11 lakh vehicles have been registered up to June in the current financial year. To promote electric vehicles, a tax and fee exemption of over 942 crore has been granted. A policy like ‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ has been implemented for road safety. The Chief Minister stressed the use of modern technology and increased coordination with the police to minimize accidents.
